🤓 3 Awesome Time-Savers with Google’s Chrome Omnibox

Also new in the Turn Off the Lights Browser extension version 4.1, is the Omnibox search actions. It is a nifty way to execute that command in your web browser. Just like a terminal window but in the web browser address bar. To start this time-saver feature, you must type only the keyword “totl” in your Google Chrome Omnibox (and other Chromium web browsers support this feature such as Opera, Yandex, and Microsoft Edge). And then type one of the following sentences.

Here you can enable the dark user interface for the current website and can convert it back the regular day mode.

How to use this Omnibox search action? For example, when you type this in the address bar of your web browser:
totl night mode
That will activate the current Night Mode feature on the current web page, and even if you did not enable the night mode feature from the Turn Off the Lights Options page. It will switch to this default dark colors for the background page. And the bright color for the text and hyperlink.

The below keywords will dim or remove the dark layer the currently open tab page.

🕹 Hidden Easter egg game in Turn Off the Lights Browser extension

Did you found the hidden easter egg game? There is a secret Turn Off the Lights game hidden in the Options page.

On 15 December 2009, the first version of this extension was released for the Google Chrome web browser. And this year we celebrate the 10 years the Turn Off the Lights Browser extension. Therefore, there is a hidden easter egg game in the Turn Off the Lights v4.1 Browser extension and higher. Since the last major release, we added the search box. So you can easily find the setting you want to enable and that all to get you the best amazing web experience. But when you type the keyword “balloon” in the search box, you see that it load a mini-game on the Options page.

How do you play this easter game?

First, open the Turn Off the Lights Options page, and type in the search box the keyword “balloon”. You see it show and load the balloon mini-game. And with the arrow up key or mouse click on the canvas, you can move the balloon upwards, and when you do not press the arrow up key. The gravity brings the balloon slightly down.
The goal of this game is to move the party balloon between the two walls. And at each time you went through this wall, it will go faster and faster. Because for every 100 points you get a ping sound and that increases the speed of this track. Concentration is important as with one click too much, you can reach the wall or the ceiling. And then the game will stop and provide your current high score. Furthermore, you can share this score with your friends on your favorite social network.

🛸 New Innovated user gesture feature to get Night Mode enabled

When we released the Turn Off the Lights Browser extension v4.1, there is also a new optional user gesture for the Night Mode feature. It is not alien technology, but a great way to activate the Night Mode, and that without showing the night switch on the current web page (bottom left of your screen).

Where can I enable this user gesture feature?

You can test this new feature in all modern web browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Yandex, and Microsoft Edge). Just make sure you have the latest web browser version installed, and follow the instruction steps here below:

  1. Install the latest Turn Off the Lights Browser extension
  2. Click right on the gray lamp button, and select the menu item Options
  3. The Options page show up and select the tab Night Mode
  4. Here you see an optional checkbox to enable the long press on the current web page to activate the Night Mode feature

How to use this?

When you open a web page such as the Google News, and press and hold for a +/- 2 second on the current web page. It automatically and smoothly transits from the day theme to your own chosen night theme. If you want to restore the default theme of that website, you can press and hold again on this web page. Or just refresh the web page in your web browser.

Night Mode feature is a customizable night feature for your website, and everything can be set to your personal style. That for the background, text, and hyperlink color.
